I am a recovering alcoholic. I have been sober for 40 years. I have worked hard in Alcoholics Anonymous and psychotherapy to understand why I drank to excess.

Alcohol is a mood-altering experience. When you drink to excess, you are distracted from underlying feelings like anxiety, depression, anger, and fear. Drinking too much is also a coping mechanism. You are trying to cope with the feelings that haunt you from the past.
It is best to get help if you are a drug addict. I suggest Celebrate Recovery or AA.
No matter how addicted you are, there is hope for a brighter tomorrow. Take the first step and Christ will guide you the rest of the way.
