Smoking is a mood-altering experience. When you smoke, you are distracted from underlying feelings like anxiety, depression, anger, and fear. Smoking is also a coping mechanism. You are trying to cope with the feelings that haunt you from the past.
It is best to get help if you are addicted to tobacco. I suggest Celebrate Recovery or Nicotine Anonymous.
